Tourism stakeholders in Cox’s Bazar are optimistic about generating over Tk 700 crore in revenue during the extended Eid-ul-Azha holidays, thanks to a massive influx of visitors that has reinvigorated the local economy ahead of the monsoon.
With the coastal city buzzing with tourists, business is booming across the beach town. According to the local Hotel-Motel Guesthouse Owners’ Association, Cox’s Bazar currently has over 500 establishments, including hotels, motels, resorts, cottages, and guesthouses. They estimate that more than 70,000 tourists are arriving daily, with the total number expected to surpass 900,000 by the end of the holiday.
Abu Morshed Chowdhury, president of the Cox’s Bazar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said, “This Eid, business could exceed Tk 700 crore. In addition to hotels, restaurants, shops, beach activities, local transport, and tourist attractions, these sectors are also witnessing high sales.
To ensure tourist safety, tourist police, mobile units, and lifeguards are working in coordination across key locations. In addition, the district administration has deployed mobile courts to prevent tourist harassment and maintain order, said the deputy commissioner.
