This weekend, an inter-school debate competition focusing on plastic use and management occurred in Cox’s Bazar.
The Cox’s Bazar phase’s final round and closing ceremony were held on Saturday afternoon at the Shaheed Subhash Auditorium in the city’s public library.
The Bangladesh Debate Federation (BDF) organized the event, supported by the Department of Environment and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
The debate aimed to raise awareness about the environmental impact of plastic use and explore sustainable management solutions.
Cox’s Bazar Model High School emerged as the champion, while Baitush Sharaf Jabbaria Academy School and College secured the runner-up position.
The final debate underscored the crucial role of the media in promoting public awareness of environmental conservation and advocating for the sustainable use of plastic, which is essential for positioning Cox’s Bazar as a world-class hub for tourism and fisheries.
Samia Jannat Ariba, from the champion team, was named Best Debater of the final round. In contrast, Fariha Tasin Samantha from the runner-up team received the accolade of Best Debater of the tournament.
16 teams from various schools across Cox’s Bazar district participated in the two-day competition. Additionally, more than 600 students attended a workshop on the event’s final day.
