With the themes “Workers and Employers Together: Building a New Bangladesh” and “Ensuring Workers’ Rights: Committing to an Equal Bangladesh,” Cox’s Bazar observed International Workers’ Day and National Occupational Health and Safety Day with due respect and enthusiasm.
Marking the occasion, the district administration organized a colorful rally and a discussion session today. The rally started from the premises of the Deputy Commissioner’s office and paraded through the town’s main streets, drawing attention to workers’ rights and workplace safety.
Following the rally, a discussion focused on the significance of the day at the Shaheed ATM Zafar Alam Conference Room of the DC office. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin attended as the chief guest.
In his speech, the DC emphasized the importance of a healthy work environment, harmonious labor-employer relationships, and ensuring labor rights to enhance the quality of Bangladesh’s industry, products, and services in line with global standards. He also highlighted four key factors—safety, healthcare, skill development, and fairness—that can empower the working class to improve their quality of life.
The event was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Nizam Uddin Ahmed. Other speakers included Additional Deputy Commissioner Shahidul Haque, Additional Superintendent of Police Jasim Uddin Chowdhury, Deputy Inspector General of the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments Mofakhkharul Islam, Cox’s Bazar Press Club President Mahbubur Rahman, and student representative Riyad Moni.
Government and private sector officials, political leaders, freedom fighters, student representatives, and leaders from various labor and employer associations were also present at the program.
