Young Cox’s Bazar-based photographer Shah Alam Babu has had a powerful photograph selected for the “UN80 Youth Photo Exhibition” organized by the United Nations, out of over 500 submissions from across Bangladesh.
The exhibition, marking the UN’s 80th anniversary, showcases 80 exceptional photographs by young Bangladeshi photographers, each capturing themes of peace, equality, and a sustainable future.
Babu’s selected photograph, titled “Sonar Bangladesh” (Golden Bangladesh), portrays a young child on a riverbank collecting discarded fish left by fishermen. This evocative scene highlights the struggles of marginalized communities and the resilience of humanity.
Reflecting on his achievement, Shah Alam Babu said,
“Being recognized as a powerful photographer at a UN exhibition is one of the proudest moments of my life. This honor isn’t mine alone—it belongs to Cox’s Bazar; it belongs to all of us.”
He added that his greatest inspiration has always been his parents, whose love and prayers continue to guide him through every step of his journey.
The UN80 Youth Photo Exhibition, themed “Youth as Catalysts of Change,” is being held at Shahabuddin Park in Gulshan-2, Dhaka, from October 30 to November 1. The exhibition is open to all visitors free of charge during the park’s regular hours.
Through the eyes of young photographers, the exhibition envisions a new world—a just, peaceful, and sustainable Bangladesh, echoing the spirit of the United Nations’ 80-year legacy.
