Bangladesh Railway has extended the operation period of the Cox’s Bazar Special Train, which runs on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar route, by another month.
In a letter from the Eastern Region of the railway last Wednesday (September 11), it was stated that due to passenger demand, the operation of the Cox’s Bazar Special Train has been extended from September 16 to October 15.
Earlier this year, Bangladesh Railway launched the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar special passenger train on April 8, just before Eid-ul-Fitr.
Due to high passenger demand, the special train continued to operate for 52 days after Eid.
However, on May 30, the service was suspended, citing crew and engine shortages. The train service was resumed as an Eid special on June 12 for Eid-ul-Adha.
The Cox’s Bazar Special Train has 743 seats, with 16 coaches. Without standing tickets, the daily revenue amounts to TK176,350.
If more tickets are sold, the revenue increases accordingly. There is significant passenger demand on this route, and ticket sales are high.
Meanwhile, the people of Cox’s Bazar have called for the train service not to be discontinued.
