A Chittagong University student drowned while two of his friends went missing after entering the sea in Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred near the Himchhari Museum area of the beach.

The deceased, K M Sadman Rahman Sabab, was a first-year student in the Department of Development Studies at Chittagong University and a resident of Mirpur, Dhaka. His missing friends have been identified as Aritra Hasan and Asif Ahmed.

According to their friends, the group of five had travelled to Cox’s Bazar on Monday after completing their first-year final examinations. Around 5:30 am, they went to the beach near the Himchhari Museum to enjoy the morning and take photographs.

“It started raining while we were taking pictures, so two of us ran for shelter under an umbrella, but the others remained in the water,” said one of the friends. 

“Suddenly, before our eyes, they disappeared into the water,” he added.

A short while later, Sabab’s body washed ashore, but the other two are still missing,’ he added.

Officials at the Cox’s Bazar Fire Service Station stated that a rescue team was dispatched to the scene after reports of a body washing ashore and is continuing operations to locate the missing students.
