A daylong training workshop on climate change, conservation reporting, and discussion skills has kicked off in Cox’s Bazar. Over 40 journalists from Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Rangamati, Bandarban, and Khagrachari, including two from Cox’s Bazar Life, are participating in this event.

The workshop began on Saturday (January 11) at the scenic Nisarga Community Center in Himchari National Park, Cox’s Bazar.

The event, organized under the project “Strengthening the Negotiators: Empowering Bangladeshi Stakeholders in the UNFCCC Negotiations,” is supported by the UK Government’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and the Climate Ambition Support Alliance (CASA).

It is implemented in Bangladesh by the Nature Conservation Management (NACOM) and The Climate Watch, an online news portal dedicated to climate change.

The workshop’s primary aim is to equip journalists with the knowledge, skills, and tools needed to spotlight Bangladesh’s national climate priorities on the global stage. Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of the UNFCCC framework, international climate negotiation processes, and key topics such as adaptation, mitigation, just transition, climate finance, loss and damage, and gender mainstreaming.

The workshop seeks to empower journalists with this expertise to enhance their ability to report effectively on Bangladesh’s climate challenges and achievements. This will enable them to advocate for international support, amplify the nation’s voice in global climate dialogues, and craft compelling narratives that drive impactful change.
