Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner (DC), Mohammad Abdul Mannan, visited several Durga Puja mandaps in Ukhiya on Sunday evening (September 28) to ensure safety and smooth celebration of the Sharadiya Durga Puja festival.

From evening until 10 p.m., the newly appointed DC toured nine Puja mandaps, including those at Daroga Bazar, Kutupalong Hindu Rohingya Camp, and Balukhali Hari Mandir.

During the visits, he inspected safety arrangements, including fire control systems, healthcare services, and road safety measures, and exchanged views with Puja organisers and local residents.

“Puja is a unique symbol of our tradition and communal harmony,” said DC Mannan. “To ensure a peaceful and joyous celebration this year, the district administration has taken comprehensive security measures. I urge everyone to maintain law and order, show mutual respect, and enjoy the festival together.”

He added that the administration is working closely with local residents and Puja organisers to ensure a smooth and peaceful celebration. “Special attention is being given to mandaps located in the Rohingya camps, where strict security and health protocols are being maintained,” he said.

During the visits, the DC was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Nizam Uddin Ahmed, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Imran Hossain Sajib, Ukhiya Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Kamrul Islam Chowdhury, and Palongkhali Union Parishad Chairman M Gafur Uddin Chowdhury.
