Chakaria, the four-time champions and tournament favorites, crashed out of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gold Cup Football Tournament after a shocking 1–0 defeat to Teknaf on Wednesday (September 3). The thrilling quarterfinal clash occurred at Birshreshtha Ruhul Amin Stadium, where Teknaf secured their spot in the semifinals.
Ahead of the game, anticipation was high as both sides carried strong reputations.
While Chakaria entered the tournament without star players, Teknaf fielded a formidable lineup featuring three foreign recruits.
Thousands of football fans packed the stands, most expecting Chakaria to dominate—but the match soon told a different story.
In the first half, Teknaf created multiple chances but failed to convert. Chakaria, too, pressed forward in search of an opener, yet could not break the deadlock.
The breakthrough came in the 49th minute when Teknaf striker Ifti netted the decisive goal. Captain Jahangir later squandered at least five golden opportunities to extend the lead.
The game saw heated moments in the 65th minute when Teknaf’s foreign player Nana and Chakaria’s Itu clashed over ball possession, leading to a scuffle. Referee Syed Karim halted play for ten minutes before resuming, showing both players red cards.
Despite their best efforts, Chakaria—missing an experienced forward—failed to equalize. Teknaf’s three foreign defenders proved impenetrable, shielding their side with rock-solid defense.
When the final whistle blew, the Teknaf camp celebrated a hard-fought victory.
Midfielder Kaiser was named Man of the Match for his commanding performance. He received the trophy from Md. Alauddin, Member Secretary of the District Sports Association’s Ad-hoc Committee, along with technical committee members Iqbal Mohammad Shamsul Huda Tidal, Afsar Uddin, Khorshed Alam, Sarwar Roman, Masud Alam, and Mohammad Hossain.
On Thursday (September 4) at 3:00 PM, tournament contenders Maheshkhali will face debutants Eidgaon in another eagerly awaited encounter.
