The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) held age-group cricket trials in Kutubdia for the first time, giving young players from the island upazila in Cox’s Bazar a chance to compete for places in district teams.
The open preliminary selection process for under-14, under-16 and under-18 players began Wednesday morning at Kutubdia Upazila Mini Stadium.
The Cox’s Bazar District Sports Association organised the trials as part of the process of forming district teams for the 2026–27 cricket season, with support from the BCB and overall supervision by the Kutubdia Upazila Sports Association.
Kutubdia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Mizanur Rahman, who is also president of the upazila sports association, inaugurated the programme.
Among those present were Upazila Agriculture Officer Asim Kumar Das, Kutubdia Upazila BNP member secretary MA Salam Kutubi, district coach Sujit Das, cricketer Tanim Sikder and Upazila Sports Association member secretary Abul Kashem.
Those involved in the initiative said the trials would give promising young cricketers from Kutubdia a chance to develop their talent and showcase their abilities at the district level.
Sports organisers expressed hope that, with proper training and support, talented players from the island could eventually establish themselves at district and national levels.
