In the aftermath of the intense low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, abnormally high tides breached the sluice gate at Cheptakhali in Moghnama, Pekua upazila of Cox’s Bazar. The floodwaters inundated roads in Kakpara, Morichyadia, Natunpara, and Napitardia, raising concerns about flooding in low-lying homes.
Fortunately, the Submarine Naval Base Road Development Authority acted swiftly, using concrete blocks to block the water inlet and prevent the further spread of the flood, thereby saving Moghnama and Ujantia areas from severe inundation.
Meanwhile, Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin visited the at-risk areas to assess the situation firsthand. On Saturday (May 31) at 11 AM, he inspected the Cheptakhali Sluice Gate at the Submarine Naval Base Road in Moghnama Union. During his visit, he also inquired about plans for sustainable embankment construction to prevent future flooding.
Pekua Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Moinul Hossain Chowdhury, Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Moghnama Union Administrator Nur Peyara Begum, and Union Administrative Officer Abdu Razzak were present during the inspection.
