One of the biggest attractions for visitors in Cox’s Bazar is dried fish, locally known as shutki.
This delicacy is made from freshly caught sea fish, which is popular among locals and enjoys wide demand across Bangladesh.
As a result, dried fish shops in key spots like Laboni Point, Sugandha, and Nazirartek are drawing heavy footfall daily.
Tourists say a trip to Cox’s Bazar feels incomplete without taking home some dried fish.
Shopkeepers report that various dried fish are selling well, with loitta, shrimp, coral, rupchanda, Bombay duck, and chepa shutki topping the list. Although prices are slightly higher than usual, tourists remain eager to buy, valuing both the quality and taste.
Current prices range from Tk 600 for chhuri shutki, Tk 750 for shrimp, Tk 1,350 for rupchanda and coral, and Tk 1,400 for surma shutki.
Vendors add that sales multiply several times over during the peak tourism season.
