Cox’s Bazar Beach, once a sanctuary for diverse marine life, is witnessing a tragic decline in its natural biodiversity. Beach bikes are crushing iconic red crabs, a symbol of Cox’s Bazar’s heritage and a friend to the environment, putting their existence at risk.
Beach bikes are a common sight along the Laboni, Sugandha, and Kolatoli points of Cox’s Bazar shoreline. However, beyond Kolatoli lies a haven for red crabs, turtles, and other marine species.
Unfortunately, beach bikes, motorcycles, and even cars occasionally venture into these delicate habitats, putting the fragile biodiversity at serious risk.
In addition to mechanical vehicles, the sheer number of tourists has also strained areas like Darianagar, President Beach Point, Himchari, Pechar Dwip’s Crab Beach, and Sonarpara, further jeopardizing the marine ecosystem.
Concerned citizens and environmental organizations in Cox’s Bazar have called for urgent action to protect these precious habitats and preserve the beach’s unique biodiversity.
