It is rice harvesting season across the rural areas of Ukhiya, where the fields are now alive with activity. A field visit reveals farmers and workers using modern machines to thresh rice, accelerating a process once labor-intensive and time-consuming.
With advanced threshers, separating grains from the stalk has become significantly faster and easier than before.
Bundles of rice are carried from the stacks to the machine, where they are threshed and prepared for drying.
Yards and open fields are full of life, with men and women working together. Some are winnowing the grains, others are arranging the straw, while many are assisting in feeding the machine.
Surrounded by lush greenery, drifting straw particles in the breeze, and the steady hum of machinery, Ukhiya’s rice fields present a vivid portrait of Bangladesh’s timeless rural life blending with modern farming practices.
Local farmer Syed Hossain says the use of such agricultural machinery is saving time, increasing production, and easing the physical burden on workers.
The bustling activity of the harvest season, he adds, gives the village economy new momentum.
