Across the villages of Pechar Dwip in Cox’s Bazar, preparations for the seasonal fishing period are in full swing.
Skilled craftsmen, boat owners, and local fishermen are passing busy days building boats of various sizes—some brand new, others being repaired and freshly painted for the coming season.
At different docks and workshops, the scent of timber fills the air.
The rhythmic sound of hammers blends with the sight of craftsmen shaping wooden frames, reinforcing joints, and assembling every part with precision to ensure the vessels are seaworthy.
Locals say that as winter approaches, preparations for venturing into the sea intensify, and demand for boat construction peaks.
Craftsmen are working day and night, cutting wood, fitting battens, and crafting the curved ribs. Boat owners themselves closely supervise the process to ensure every component is strong, safe, and ready to endure the open sea.
Fishermen are hopeful for a good catch in the new season, which is why everyone is fully invested in completing the boats on time.
Larger boats are being equipped with modern gear, while the smaller ones are crafted to be lighter and more agile for navigating strong waves.
Pechar Dwip is now abuzz with a festive-like energy. The sound of boatbuilding, the movement of craftsmen, and the readiness of fishermen together announce the arrival of a new season for the coastal community.
