For the first time, a robotics workshop and seminar were held in Ramu Upazila of Cox’s Bazar. The event took place on Sunday (August 24) at the Bakkhali Auditorium, with the participation of more than 200 students from 20 local secondary schools.
Sahityaghor Public Library organized the workshop in collaboration with Youth Position Bangladesh and the Center for Youth Position. Robotics trainers from Calibrator-Z, a Dhaka-based team that has won multiple gold medals and awards at international competitions, conducted the session.
From 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., students participated in hands-on learning and project demonstrations. Discussions covered the use and prospects of robotics, its various components and functions, how students can begin learning robotics, career guidance, and real-life applications through interactive projects.
Speaking at the event, Rimon Barua, founding director of Sahityaghor Public Library and Youth Position Bangladesh, said:
“In upazilas like Ramu, we are still far behind in science and research. Many of us don’t know why robotics matters or how to conduct scientific inquiry. To learn science practically, we need research labs. With that vision, we are launching the Sahityaghor Science Club, so that one day every student in Ramu can engage in scientific research. With collective support, we will surely achieve our goal.”
On the library’s book-reading initiative, Sahityaghor Public Library president Sumanta Barua added:
“Currently, we run a two-hour mobile library program in four schools of Ramu. But our dream is to expand this initiative to every school, ensuring at least one library for each.”
To mark the inauguration of the Sahityaghor Science Club, volunteer coordinator Surjya Barua Shuvo said:
“We plan to organize at least one science-related workshop or seminar every week or month. With your participation and support, we hope to advance on the path of science.”
As part of its ongoing reading program, students were given books to read and were later asked to share their reflections. A quiz competition followed, with the top five winners receiving books as prizes. All participating students received certificates, while teachers were gifted books in appreciation.
Teachers and students also shared their experiences from the workshop, expressing gratitude to the organizers. The event concluded with guidance and motivational remarks from the Calibrator-Z trainers, who encouraged students to continue exploring the world of robotics.
