The five-day ‘Bijoy Mela’ or Muktijuddher Bijoy Mela 2025’ (Victory Fair Marking the Liberation War–2025) is set to begin tomorrow, December 17, at Shaheed Daulat Maidan in Cox’s Bazar.

Organised to mark the Victory Day, the fair will continue until December 21.

As in previous years, the event has been organized by the Bijoy Mela Celebration Committee to present the spirit, history, and sacrifices of the Liberation War to the next generation. The fair seeks to preserve the ideals of 1971 and keep alive the memory of the brave freedom fighters who secured the nation’s independence.

A festive atmosphere has already taken shape across Cox’s Bazar city, centring on the fair. Shaheed Daulat Maidan hosts the main stage and numerous exhibition stalls.

This year, 20 cultural organisations from Cox’s Bazar will participate in the fair, presenting music, dance, drama, mass songs, recitations, and patriotic performances that reflect the history and spirit of the Liberation War.

The fair will be formally inaugurated at 3:00 pm on December 17 by the valiant freedom fighters of 1971. Organisers said that launching the fair through the hands of freedom fighters will remain a powerful symbol of inspiration for the younger generation.

Ashraful Huda Siddiqui Jamshed, chairman of the Victory Fair Celebration Committee, said all preparations have already been completed. “The Victory Fair is not just a celebration; it is an important initiative to preserve the history of the Liberation War and pass it on from one generation to the next,” he said.

Earlier, on Friday (December 12), the official poster of the Victory Fair of the Liberation War–2025 was unveiled at the Cox’s Bazar Central Shaheed Minar.

Subimal Pal Panna, convener of the Celebration Committee, said the fair plays a significant role in presenting the true history of the Liberation War and preventing historical distortion.

Meanwhile, Sourav Deb, convener of the decoration subcommittee, said special emphasis has been placed on Liberation War–era events, symbols, and memories in this year’s stage design. “The stage and the entire fairground have been decorated in a way that allows visitors to experience the atmosphere of the Liberation War period,” he said.

Organisers also confirmed that necessary measures have been taken to ensure law and order and overall security throughout the fair.

They expressed hope that the five-day event would further strengthen the spirit of the Liberation War and turn the Victory Fair into a unique gathering with spontaneous participation from people of all walks of life.
