The government wants to build a “Rainbow Nation” where all citizens enjoy equal status, State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmud Khaiyam said at a meeting with cultural activists and representatives of ethnic minority communities in Cox’s Bazar.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at the meeting, held at the Shaheed ATM Zafar Alam Conference Room of the Cox’s Bazar deputy commissioner’s office at 11:00am on October 20.
Organised by the district administration, the meeting was attended by cultural activists from different upazilas, representatives of ethnic minority organisations and members of various cultural groups. Participants shared their concerns, opportunities and expectations with the state minister.
Speaking at the meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abul Mannan, Khaiyam said the previous government had damaged the country’s cultural landscape.
“The previous fascist government destroyed culture everywhere in various ways. We are working to address those problems through different cultural programmes. We want to build a Rainbow Nation by ensuring equal status for all citizens of the country,” he said.
The discussion focused on challenges and opportunities in the local cultural sector, ways to promote cultural activities across the district, and the preservation of the traditions and heritage of ethnic minority communities.
Participants also had the opportunity to share their views on expanding cultural initiatives and protecting local traditions.
