The skeletal remains of schoolteacher Nasrin Akter Mukta, who had been missing since a devastating fire at Tuptup Restaurant and Resort in Inani, Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, were recovered from the burnt ruins on Tuesday, 10 days after the incident.

Fire service personnel, police, and upazila administration officials recovered the remains around 2:30 pm on Tuesday.  Mukta’s husband, Dewan Faisal, was present during the search.

Faisal identified the remains as those of his wife by a gold chain found with them.

However, authorities said DNA testing would be required to officially confirm her identity.

Ukhiya Police Station officer-in-charge Atikur Rahman and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Panna Akter confirmed the recovery. The remains were taken for further procedures.

Mukta had been missing since the resort fire on October 17. Her husband and family had spent 10 days waiting for news of her whereabouts.
