Heavy rainfall has led to waterlogging across most areas of Cox’s Bazar town, including low-lying neighbourhoods. Hotel owners on the Kalatali Main Road and in the hotel-motel zone are facing difficulties due to the flooding. However, tourist arrivals have not stopped, with visitors seen enjoying the beach despite the rain.
A visit to the area revealed that the main road in the Kalatali hotel-motel zone, along with the connecting lanes to nearby hotels and guesthouses, has been submerged in knee-deep water.
Water has also accumulated on the town’s main roads and in areas such as Bazarghata, Borobazar, Tekpara, Burmese Market, Buddhist Temple Road, Goldighirpar, Tarabaniarchhara, and Rumaliarchhara, making movement difficult for residents and visitors.
Locals and urban observers say that unplanned urbanization has led to waterlogging in the hotel-motel zone during heavy rains. Business owners have been more severely affected than tourists, resulting in a slowdown in local business activity.
