The District Health Department has initiated a district-wide HPV vaccination campaign in Cox’s Bazar to prevent cervical cancer.

On October 24, the Government Girls’ High School’s conference hall hosted a discussion session to kick off the month-long campaign.

Mohammad Salahuddin, deputy commissioner of Cox’s Bazar, highlighted the significance of the HPV vaccine as a vital government initiative to safeguard the health of adolescent girls for future generations.

He also urged parents to resist the influence of false information about the vaccine.

Civil Surgeon Dr. Asif Ahmed Hawladar presided over the event, attended by officials from district, health, education, and upazila administrations and Unicef.

Teachers, students from various educational institutions, and parents were in attendance.

During the meeting, the speakers announced that throughout the campaign, 168,041 girls aged 10 to 14, including students from grades 5 to 9, in all educational institutions across the district’s nine upazilas, as well as out-of-school adolescents, will receive one dose of the HPV vaccine free of charge following registration.
