Cox’s Bazar International University (CBIU) hosted a day-long international seminar on English education for the first time. The American Embassy funded the workshop, which brought together over 150 teachers from 50 educational institutions across Cox’s Bazar and the Hill Tracts region on Saturday (January 11).

Organized by Global Aid for Sustainable Development (GASD), the seminar featured Scott Hartman, the U.S. Embassy’s Public Affairs Officer, as the chief guest.

Dr. Mohibullah, Chairman of GASD, presided over the event. Acting Vice-Chancellor of CBIU, Professor Dr. Touhid Hossain Chowdhury, and Dean Professor Kazi Mostain Billah delivered unique addresses.

Dr. Shayla Sultana, Professor at BRAC University, delivered the keynote address, while Professor Dr. Ahmed Bashir, Chairman of BELTA Bangladesh, served as the plenary speaker.

The seminar’s speakers emphasized that the southeastern region had never hosted such a large-scale, embassy-funded conference on English education. They also stressed that the event was an excellent opportunity for teachers to enhance their skills and expand their knowledge.

The seminar featured 12 research papers on language learning, with plenary discussions led by Professor Dr. Rokon Uddin from the University of Chittagong.

In his closing remarks, Professor Sadat Zaman Khan, Academic Advisor of CBIU, expressed gratitude to all participants and organizers. Attendees praised CBIU’s serene environment and the seminar’s well-structured program, calling for more such initiatives in the future to sustain the momentum of professional development for English educators.
