The Cox’s Bazar District Administration and the Tourist Police conducted a joint mobile court operation on January 15, 2025, at 4:30 PM, to remove unauthorized shops from the Sugandha Beach area.
The tourism magistrate and additional district magistrate led the operation to regulate the growing number of illegal establishments spoiling the beach’s aesthetic appeal.
During the drive, the district administration dismantled 10–12 unauthorized shops without valid permission cards and imposed fines. The tourism magistrate reports that the area officially allows only four vendors with permission cards to sell fish fry, while approximately 15 other vendors operate without authorization.
Initially approved for selling pickles or coconuts, some vendors have shifted to running fish fry stalls, defying their permits.
This unchecked proliferation of shops has disrupted the beach’s beauty and hindered tourists’ experiences. They regularly conduct such operations to prevent further encroachments and preserve the beach’s charm.
Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police and Media Spokesperson of Tourist Police, Cox’s Bazar Region, Abul Kalam, confirmed that these coordinated drives will continue to ensure a well-organized beach environment and better facilities for tourists and visitors.
