July Martyrs’ Day 2026 was observed in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday with wreath-laying ceremonies, discussions and prayers in remembrance of those killed during the July uprising.
The day’s programme began in the morning with the laying of wreaths at the July Memorial Monument at the city’s bus terminal. Officials from the district administration and police, representatives of July fighters, political parties and various government and non-government organisations paid tribute to the martyrs.
A discussion meeting was later held at the conference room of the Cox’s Bazar deputy commissioner’s office.
Among those present were Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mannan, Superintendent of Police ANM Sajedur Rahman, Deputy Director of the Local Government Department Shamim Al Imran, Additional Deputy Commissioner Shahidul Alam, Civil Surgeon Dr Mohammad Chaber, Cox’s Bazar BNP office secretary Yusuf Badri, district Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal president Rafiqul Islam, Cox’s Bazar Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Nur Ahmed Anwari, city ameer Abdul Al Faruk, Jamaat leader Shahidul Alam Bahadur, district NCP convener Akhtar Alam and student representatives Sahed, Almgir and Robiul, along with officials from different government offices.
Speakers at the meeting highlighted the importance of the sacrifices of the July uprising martyrs and paid tribute to their memory. They called on people to uphold the martyrs’ ideals and work together to build a democratic, equitable and developed Bangladesh.
The programme concluded with special prayers seeking eternal peace for the souls of the July martyrs.
