With pristine sandy beaches on its western shores and captivating muddy shores to the east, Kutubdia Island is a treasure trove of natural beauty. Home to Bangladesh’s first and only lighthouse, wind energy projects, dried fish and salt production, and seasonal fruits such as dates, the island offers a unique charm that draws visitors in.

Situated in the Bay of Bengal, Kutubdia is an island sub-district under Cox’s Bazar. Known as “The Lighthouse Island” and “The Island of Shrines,” it attracts thousands of tourists annually despite its underdeveloped infrastructure and limited modern amenities.

Located between Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar, the island is accessible quickly and affordably, making it a convenient destination. Much like other islands in the region, Kutubdia boasts stunning natural beauty, providing a refreshing retreat for visitors.

Local advocates believe that, with proper initiatives, the Cox’s Bazar district administration could develop Kutubdia into a significant tourism hotspot.

Following the interim government’s recent restrictions on tourism to Saint Martin’s Island to protect the environment, many suggest Kutubdia as a viable alternative. This shift could ease the pressure on Saint Martin’s while conserving its fragile ecosystem, opening up new possibilities for sustainable tourism.
