A surge of last-minute shoppers has swept through markets in Cox’s Bazar, as people rush to buy their preferred outfits ahead of Eid, turning the town into a hub of festive activity.

With only a day remaining before Eid, shopping centres across the town have become increasingly crowded. Footfall peaks from the afternoon into late evening, with shops witnessing overwhelming crowds of eager buyers.

A visit to the popular Apan Tower Goli Market around 5:00 pm on Wednesday showed people of all ages thronging the narrow market lanes in search of clothes of their choice. Shops were packed, with sellers struggling to manage the pressure of customers.

Among fashion-conscious male shoppers, demand for traditional Panjabis, shirts, and pyjamas was particularly high. Shopkeepers said they were struggling to keep up with the influx.

Talking to several shoppers, it was learned that clothing prices are comparatively higher this year than in previous years. Despite this, the festive spirit of Eid is driving people to complete their essential purchases.

Saeed, a shopper, said that although prices were high, Eid comes only once a year, making it necessary to buy preferred outfits regardless of cost.

On the other hand, retailer Hamid Hasan attributed the price hike to higher wholesale costs. Shopkeepers claimed that higher procurement costs have forced them to sell at elevated prices.

Overall, markets in Cox’s Bazar are now buzzing with activity, as both buyers and sellers remain busy amid the last-minute Eid shopping rush.
