A low-pressure system has formed over the Bay of Bengal, prompting the weather office to forecast light to heavy rainfall for Cox’s Bazar.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the monsoon is currently active over Bangladesh and moderate over the north Bay. Under its influence, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds may occur in Cox’s Bazar within the next 24 hours from 9 am Sunday.

In a special bulletin, BMD warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at places in Cox’s Bazar, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions within the next 72 hours. It also cautioned that very heavy rain may trigger landslides in the hilly areas of Chattogram division.

As per BMD’s classification, rainfall between 23–43 mm in 24 hours is considered moderately heavy, 44–88 mm is classified as heavy, and anything above 88 mm is termed very heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, the Met Office has predicted that both day and night temperatures across the country may drop by 1–2 degrees Celsius due to the rainfall.
