On Wednesday afternoon, a massive 22-kilogram coral fish was caught on a fishing line in the Naf River in Teknaf, creating excitement among local fishermen and traders. The fish, measuring four and a half feet long, was sold for Tk 26,400 shortly after being caught.
The catch occurred near the Teknaf Municipality Transit Jetty, where the fishing line had been set, and according to Abdur Rashid, the jetty’s leaseholder, Firoz Ahmed, a local fisherman, caught the fish.
“I caught it using a large hook. A fish trader bought it from me for Tk 26,000,” said Firoz, visibly delighted with the rare catch.
Speaking to the media, Mohammad Delwar Hossain, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer, said that large-sized coral fish have been caught more frequently in the Naf River recently, which is a positive sign for the region’s artisanal fisheries.
Locals gathered at the jetty to see the massive fish, which they described as one of the largest coral specimens caught in recent memory.
