Mohammad Rifat is a renowned master boatbuilder in Cox’s Bazar, known for crafting large fishing trawlers. A resident of Dariyanagar, Rifat began his journey in boatbuilding at the young age of 18. Now, at 47, he continues to refine his craft with the same passion and precision.
While he initially worked as a boatbuilder, today, he owns eight large fishing trawlers, all capable of navigating the deep sea.
Beyond his work, Rifat has trained 35 to 40 individuals in boatbuilding, many of whom have become self-sufficient and followed in his footsteps.
In the photo, Rifat is seen applying tar to a boat—an essential process that prevents water from seeping in and extends the vessel’s durability. “Whether new or old, every boat needs a tar coating to maintain its strength and longevity,” he explains.
