Mermaid Beach Resort has introduced a new initiative to preserve the ecological balance of Cox’s Bazar’s coastline.
As part of this program, guests can plant trees with their hands, contributing directly to environmental conservation.
Anisul Haque Chowdhury Sohag, Managing Director of Mermaid Eco-Tourism Ltd, emphasized the significance of this effort.
“Our goal is not just to provide a unique experience for our guests but also to promote environmental sustainability. By planting coconut trees, we aim to protect the coastal ecosystem while allowing visitors to leave a lasting, meaningful impact,” he added.
He also said that through this project, they hope to strengthen the bond with nature and encourage tourists to participate in eco-friendly
initiatives.
“In addition to coconut trees, we are exploring other sustainable projects to ensure long-term beach conservation.”
Environmental experts highlight the vital role of coconut trees in coastal regions. They help prevent soil erosion, reduce wind speed, and protect the shoreline.
Thriving in saline coastal environments, they contribute significantly to the beach ecosystem, they also said.
Moreover, their deep root systems anchor the soil, minimizing land degradation, while their shade helps keep beach areas cool.
