The arrival of the monsoon has given Kakra Beach along Cox’s Bazar’s Marine Drive a fresh lease of life, with rain-fed pools, lush casuarina groves, rolling waves, and overcast skies creating a striking coastal landscape that is attracting growing numbers of tourists.
At the beach, shallow pools formed by recent rainfall stretch across the sandy shoreline, while rows of casuarina trees frame the coast against the backdrop of the Bay of Bengal.
After the rain, sunlight reflecting off the water adds to the area’s picturesque charm, drawing tourists eager to experience the season’s unique beauty.
Many tourists spend time with family and friends, taking photographs and recording videos, while others simply relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Tourist Md Asiou said the beach becomes even more captivating during the monsoon.
“The combination of the casuarina forest, rainwater pools, and the sea creates an exceptional atmosphere. It is a refreshing place to visit, and the scenery is truly beautiful,” he said.
Local resident Hamid said Kakra Beach was once known mainly as a winter destination, but its monsoon scenery is now attracting increasing numbers of tourists.
“Many visitors now come during the rainy season after seeing photos and videos online. The beach is especially busy in the afternoon,” he said.
People involved in the local tourism sector said visitor numbers increase significantly during the monsoon whenever the weather remains favourable.
They added that the growing popularity of photographs and videos shared on social media has further enhanced the beach’s appeal as one of Cox’s Bazar’s emerging seasonal attractions.
