Continuous rainfall in Cox’s Bazar has turned the scenic Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive into a treacherous route, raising serious safety concerns—particularly for motorbike riders.

Known for its breathtaking sea views and lush green surroundings, Marine Drive is usually one of the region’s top tourist attractions. But recent showers have made the road dangerously slippery, increasing the risk of accidents.

On Wednesday alone, multiple accidents were reported along various parts of Marine Drive, leaving several people injured, according to local sources. Most of the victims were tourists riding rental motorbikes, hoping to enjoy the scenic journey despite the rain.

Transport workers and locals say the road has become slick due to rain, and water accumulation in some areas is causing riders to lose brake control—leading to a spike in accidents.

In response, local authorities and road safety experts are urging tourists to exercise extreme caution when traveling on Marine Drive during the rainy season. They emphasize that only experienced riders should attempt to navigate the road on bikes, and that all drivers should slow down and remain vigilant.

Tourists are also being reminded that while the monsoon may add a certain charm to the landscape, it also demands a greater degree of care. Enjoy the beauty, they say, but don’t let a joyful trip turn into a tragic one.
