With the theme “Nutrition for All—From Children to the Elderly”, National Nutrition Week began in Cox’s Bazar on May 28 and will run through June 3.
To mark the occasion, a rally and discussion event were held on Wednesday, organized by the Institute of Public Health Nutrition and implemented by the District Civil Surgeon’s Office.
The rally began in front of the Sadar Upazila Health and Family Planning Office. It proceeded along the hospital road, drawing attention to the importance of proper nutrition at all stages of life.
The opening discussion was held at the EPI Store conference room and was presided over by Civil Surgeon Dr. Mohammadul Haque. In his speech, Dr. Haque emphasized the vital role of nutrition in building a healthy and strong nation. He particularly highlighted the importance of ensuring proper nutrition for pregnant mothers, stating that without it, the birth of healthy children becomes difficult.
Other speakers included Deputy Director of the District Family Planning Office Biplob Barua, Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Abhijit Das, Medical Officer Dr. Shah Fahim Ahmed Faisal from the Civil Surgeon’s Office, and Pediatric Specialist Dr. May Nu from the District Sadar Hospital.
The event saw participation from various health department officials, representatives of development partners, as well as students from the Nursing College and the Institute.
Officials also announced a series of activities to be held throughout the week, including quizzes, art competitions, and seminars at educational institutions, aimed at raising awareness about the importance of nutrition in everyday life.
