Lutfur Rahman Kazal, member of parliament for Cox’s Bazar-3 constituency, has warned against setting up sacrificial cattle markets on roads or highways ahead of Eid al-Adha to avoid traffic congestion and public suffering.
He clearly stated that no temporary cattle market would be allowed on highways or beside roads and that strict legal action would be taken against any violation.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the monthly law and order committee meeting of Cox’s Bazar Sadar upazila parishad on Wednesday morning.
The lawmaker also said drug abuse had become a major challenge for the youth and the future of the nation, urging police to work with greater sincerity and efficiency to tackle the issue.
He said guardians must also remain attentive to their children’s activities, including where they go and whom they associate with.
Referring to the repeated discussions surrounding yaba trafficking in Cox’s Bazar, he said it was a matter of shame for the district and questioned why such a situation continued to persist.
He added that Cox’s Bazar is recognised worldwide as a tourism city, and the government and administration are giving the highest importance to transforming it into a safe, technology-driven, and world-class tourist destination.
He urged the administration to remain more vigilant in this regard.
Speaking about healthcare, the lawmaker said the government was working relentlessly to ensure accessible, non-discriminatory and quality healthcare services for all citizens.
He also announced that a dialysis unit would soon be introduced at the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital and said a proposal would be sent to the ministry after discussions with the relevant authorities.
Administrator and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tahmina Akter presided over the meeting. Officer-in-charge of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station Sheikh Mohammad Ali and officials from different departments were also present.
