Emergency Food Assistance Reaches Four Areas in Chakaria and Pekua
Although the floodwaters have receded, many affected families in Chakaria and Pekua continue to face food insecurity. Responding to their urgent post-flood needs, Muslim Hands International (MHI) has provided emergency food assistance to 1,400 flood-affected people across the two upazilas.
On 2–3 September 2026, food packages were distributed to 800 people in Chiringa Union and Chakaria Municipality, while a further 600 people in Rajakhali and Ujantia Unions of Pekua received assistance on 6–7 September 2026.
Each package contained nine essential food items: rice, lentils, dates, puffed rice, flattened rice, potatoes, jaggery, cooking oil, and salt.
Based on the extent of damage and vulnerability, orphans, persons with disabilities (PWDs), women, and older people were prioritised for assistance.
The Upazila Administrations of Chakaria and Pekua provided overall coordination, support and oversight throughout the distribution.
During a visit to the distribution programme, Shahin Delowar, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Chakaria, praised Muslim Hands’ initiative.
He said, “The food assistance programme being implemented by Muslim Hands International is truly commendable. The organisation is supporting some of the most affected and extremely poor flood-affected families in the area, ensuring assistance reaches those who genuinely need it. I sincerely thank Muslim Hands International for this initiative.”
Muslim Hands International stated that the initiative aims to meet the immediate food needs of disaster-affected people and strengthen food security among the most vulnerable families.
