Local cautionary signal no. 3 is currently in effect for Cox’s Bazar due to the cyclone “Dana.”
Moreover, Sea Safe Lifeguard has reported that red flags have been hoisted on the beach due to underwater holes and canals. These flags are expected to remain for the next week.
Extra caution is required when the red flag is up, and swimming beyond knee-deep water is prohibited.
Mohammad Osman, in charge of Sea Safe Lifeguard, said that although lifeguards are stationed at three points, tourists enter the sea, ignoring their instructions.
“We are making awareness through hand mic. Tourists are allowed to bathe only within the areas marked by the lifeguard flags,” he added.
Meanwhile, the upcoming November marks the start of Cox’s Bazar’s tourist season, but the influx of visitors has already begun. Many tourists, upon arriving, rush to bathe in the sea without taking necessary precautions, which often leads to accidents.
Before entering the water, it is crucial to be aware of tidal conditions, follow flag warnings, and heed lifeguards’ instructions.
