Environment Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan said that the use of polythene shopping bags and polypropylene bags is going to be banned from October 1 at the super shops across the country.

She suggested using jute and cloth bags as alternatives.

She also said that the youth and students will be involved in the implementation of this decision.

The print and electronic media of the country will widely publicize this from September 15 along with public notice.

Rizwana revealed this at a meeting with the stakeholders regarding the ban on polythene usage at the secretariat today (September 9).

The Ministry of Textiles and Jute will meet with all the super shops within a week and take necessary measures to ensure the supply of jute shopping bags.

Department of Environment in association with ESDO will organize a fair for manufacturers of alternative eco-friendly materials, jute, and textile bags by September 30.
