Power supply will remain suspended for up to four and a half hours on Tuesday in several areas of Cox’s Bazar city due to maintenance work, according to the Power Development and Distribution Division (BPDB).
The outage is part of a broader initiative to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during the upcoming national election, the holy month of Ramadan, and the summer and monsoon seasons.
The work includes trimming overgrown tree branches along 33 kV and 11 kV power lines, as well as carrying out necessary repair and maintenance activities.
BPDB officials said electricity will remain off from 7:00am to 11:30am in areas under the 11 kV DS-01, DS-03, and Express-01 feeders.
Areas under the DS-01 feeder include Baitush Sharaf Road, Buddhist Temple Road, Goldighi Par, Boillapara, Ghonar Para, Baidyaghona, Middle Ghonar Para, Mohajer Para, parts of Hospital Road, IBP Field, the Court Building area, the Public Library, BK Pal Road, Bazarghata New Market, Alamgir Tower, Barua Para, the southern side of Laldighi, the Sadar Police Station area, Banu Plaza, and the Burmese Market.
Under the DS-03 feeder, power supply will be suspended in South Hajipara, South Dikkul, the southern side of the Bus Terminal, East Larpra, the CNG Filling Station area, Uttaran, Pulse School, areas adjacent to the Police Lines, Badsha Ghona, Banrupa Para, the BGB Camp area, the southern side of Ali Jahal Road, Sahityika Palli, City College, Hashemia Madrasa, Goru Halda Road, Surjer Hashi Road, Kalur Dokan, South Tarabaniar Chhara, and Chowdhury Bhaban.
The Express-01 feeder covers South Rumalia Chhara, Bacha Mia’s Ghona, ABC Ghona, Hashemia Madrasa area, Pahartali, Isuler Ghona, Kachhapia Pukur Par, Pahartali Bazar, Badsha Ghona, Halima Para, Chairman Ghata, and Samity Bazar.
In addition, electricity supply will remain off from 11:30am to 3:00pm in areas under the Local-01 feeder, including Nazirartek, Sumiti Para, Shutki Mohol, the Air Force Base area, PRAN Hatchery, Girls’ Madrasa, and the Diabetes Hospital area.
BPDB Cox’s Bazar has apologized for the temporary inconvenience caused to consumers.
Officials said the maintenance work would be rescheduled if it could not be completed due to adverse weather conditions or any emergency situation.
