On January 8, 2025, a human chain and protest rally were organized by Youth Action for Justice and Development (JAIDA) in response to the horrific gang rape of a teenage girl in Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar.
Participants in the protest condemned violence against women and children, emphasizing the need for societal change and the immediate punishment of perpetrators.
Speaking at the rally, JAIDA’s President, Jahanara Sultana, stated, “This heinous crime is a stain on our society. We will remain steadfast in our demand for justice and ensure the culprits face the strictest punishment.”
They demanded immediate arrest and swift trial of the perpetrators. Also, they urged them to take comprehensive measures to ensure the physical and mental well-being of the survivor and her family.
They also demanded to take initiatives to raise public awareness about women’s safety and empowerment.
Residents, lawyers, journalists, youth organizations, and women’s rights activists participated in solidarity at the event. JAIDA also reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for justice and ensuring future safety for women and children.
