As part of a weeklong central program, the Cox’s Bazar district unit of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir organized a mass movement on April 11 to protest the ongoing violence in Gaza.
Following the Friday Jummah prayers, the demonstration began at Boro Bazar Jame Mosque and concluded with a brief rally before Swapno Super Shop in Jhautola.
The protest was presided over by district president Abdur Rahim Noori, with district office secretary Rahim Ullah moderating the event. District secretary Mir Muhammad Abu Talha addressed the gathering, condemning what he termed as “brutal Israeli aggression” against innocent Palestinian civilians. He also urged Middle Eastern nations to take adequate measures to stop the killings.
In his speech, the district president claimed that nearly 50,000 people, including around 20,000 children, had lost their lives due to continuous Israeli attacks. He alleged that relentless air, land, and naval strikes had destroyed schools, hospitals, residential areas, and essential infrastructure in Gaza, leaving the population in a dire humanitarian crisis. He further criticized global institutions, including the United Nations and major world powers, for what he described as their “silence and inaction” in the face of such atrocities.
“We strongly condemn and protest the roles of the UN, the US, and Middle Eastern nations in this crisis,” he said, calling for an immediate end to the violence and pledging to continue the movement until an independent Palestinian state is established.
Key district leaders, including finance secretary Dr. Azhar Uddin, training secretary Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid, and municipal president Zahirul Islam Sharif, along with a significant number of activists, participated in the protest.
