Various voluntary and social organisations in Cox’s Bazar organised a protest rally and human chain on Friday against the rising incidents of violence, rape, and murder involving women and children across the country.
The protest procession marched through the city’s main roads in the afternoon. Later, leaders and activists from different social, cultural, and volunteer organisations formed a human chain at key points in the town.
Speakers at the program expressed deep concern over the increasing incidence of violence against women and children nationwide. They demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved in the rape and murder of numerous children, including victims such as Ramisa, Urmi, and Achia.
The speakers said the culture of impunity has encouraged criminals to repeatedly commit such brutal crimes. They called for ensuring the safety of women and children through speedy trials and the strictest possible punishment for the accused.
Participants carried protest placards and festoons during the programme. Students, conscious citizens, and representatives from several social organisations joined the demonstrations.
Representatives from organisations including Embolden Bangladesh, Youth Action for Rights and Justice, JYDA Bangladesh, Activista Cox’s Bazar, YASID, and Surge Bangladesh were present at the protest and human chain programme.
