Persistent rainfall has transformed Kobita Chattar on Cox’s Bazar sea beach into a picturesque monsoon landscape, drawing a handful of tourists eager to witness the rough sea despite adverse weather.
A drizzle soaked the beach from the morning on Tuesday, while dark clouds, the roar of the Bay of Bengal and rain-washed sands combined to create a striking natural setting.
A visit to Kobita Chattar in the morning found towering waves crashing onto the shore as rain continued to fall. Some tourists stood under umbrellas admiring the scenery, while others captured the unique beauty of the monsoon on their smartphones.
Tourist Ratul said Cox’s Bazar takes on an entirely different character during the rainy season.
‘Instead of clear blue skies, there are dark clouds, continuous rain and rough waves, giving the beach a mysterious beauty that cannot be experienced in other seasons,’ he said.
Behind the scenic beauty, however, lies the harsh reality of the weather.
The sea off Cox’s Bazar remains rough under the influence of a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal, prompting the authorities to keep local warning signal No. 3 in force at Cox’s Bazar seaport.
The local administration has urged tourists not to ignore the red flags and to refrain from entering the sea.
The Cox’s Bazar Meteorological Office said rainfall is likely to continue over the next few days due to the influence of the deep depression, warning that sea conditions may remain rough.
