As the scorching heat of the Bengali month of Joishtho grips Cox’s Bazar, local markets are filling up with a variety of seasonal fruits. Among them, juicy lychees have emerged as the main attraction for buyers.

The famed lychees of Rajshahi have already started arriving in Cox’s Bazar markets, bringing with them the distinctive sweet fragrance associated with the fruit.

Fruit shops in the Goongachtala area of the town have displayed stacks of freshly harvested lychees. Vendors said the large reddish lychees were not only visually appealing but also rich in sweetness and flavour.

Halim, a fruit seller at Gumgachtala, said the lychees currently available in the market had been brought from Rajshahi. “Each 100 pieces are being sold for Tk 350. The lychees are large in size and delicious. Demand has also increased because of the hot weather,” he said.

The arrival of seasonal fruits during the intense summer heat has brought some relief and excitement among buyers. Lychees, in particular, remain among the most preferred fruits for children and teenagers during the season.
