A rare species of golden poppa fish, weighing 30 kilograms, was caught in the Hwanak area of Cox’s Bazar’s Maheshkhali on Friday (September 6).
Local fish traders estimated that the value of the fish was Tk5-Tk6 lakh as per the current market price.
The fish was caught by Mahbub Alam, a sailor of a fishing trawler owned by Anwar, when they threw their nets in the sea near Jamiri Khal.
Trawler sailor Mahbub Alam and trawler owner Anwar said that due to the flood situation, fishing trawlers and sailors were spending idle time as they were not able to go to the sea for fishing.
However, during their first attempt back at sea, they caught the valuable fish.
