The district administration in Cox’s Bazar accorded a reception to freedom fighters and members of martyrs’ families on the occasion of Independence Day and National Day.
The programme was held at the BIAM Foundation auditorium in the town on Tuesday afternoon, March 26, with Member of Parliament Shahjahan Chowdhury attending as the chief guest.
In his address, he urged freedom fighters to remain united, placing national interest above political considerations. He paid tribute to their contributions and urged the younger generation to draw inspiration from the spirit of the Liberation War.
The event, presided over by Deputy Commissioner Md A Mannan, was also addressed by Superintendent of Police AMM Sazedur Rahman, district council chief executive officer Mohammad Al Maruf, and freedom fighter Abdul Mabud, who served as special guests.
Freedom fighters and members of martyrs’ families from across the district were present at the event. On the occasion, 50 freedom fighters were honoured with tokens of appreciation, and prayers were offered for the departed souls of the martyrs.
In the final segment of the programme, scholarships were distributed among meritorious students from the families of freedom fighters.
Organisers expressed hope that such initiatives, aimed at honouring freedom fighters and inspiring the younger generation with the spirit of independence, would continue.
