To reduce road accidents ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority has installed red flags at nine risky bends on the Chattogram–Cox’s Bazar Highway.
The red flags were installed from 9:30 am on Sunday until late at night as part of an initiative by the Chattogram divisional office of the authority. To alert drivers, five red flags were placed in a row on each side of every bend, for a total of 10 flags at each location.
The locations where the red flags were installed include a bend near the wildlife sanctuary at the end of Chunati Wildlife Sanctuary, the Jangalia bend between Lohagara Upazila and Chunati, the bends before and after Deputy Bazar in Chunati, the bend adjacent to the Chunati Forest Office, the Rajaghata bend in Lohagara, the bend near Mitha Dighi in Satkania Upazila, the bend near Khanhat Pukur in Chandanaish Upazila, and the bend near Pairul Mazar in Patiya Upazila.
UthuinU Chowdhury, assistant director (engineering) of the Chattogram district circle of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority, said that the red flags were installed as precautionary markers to help drivers remain more alert while navigating the dangerous bends.
He expressed hope that the initiative would help reduce road accidents during the Eid travel rush.
