According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is showing signs of intensifying further, prompting the issuance of a distant cautionary signal No 1 for four maritime ports – Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra.
Although the system is currently far from the coast, its influence could bring light rainfall to Bangladesh’s coastal regions.
As of December 21, it was approximately 1,265 km south-southwest of Chattogram port, 1,220 km south-southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 1,140 km south-southwest of Mongla port, and 1,140 km south-southwest of Payra port.
All fishing boats and trawlers in the north Bay of Bengal and deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed cautiously until further notice.
