Nazirartek, located just three kilometers from Cox’s Bazar town, is one of the country’s leading dried fish villages. Spanning 100 acres of sandy land along the Bay of Bengal, Nazirartek is renowned for producing dried fish.

However, the area is also known for producing fish powder in addition to whole dried fish.

The process involves using rotten fish, fish intestines, and other discarded parts. First, these materials are sun-dried, then mixed with salt, flour, oil cake, bran, and crushed shells.

Workers then use machines to grind the mixture into a fine powder, which they then bag for sale.

This powdered product is primarily used as fish feed and is in high demand across the country. Production peaking from September to April.

Business owners said that the demand for fish powder continues to grow, with last season alone seeing over Tk110 crore worth of production from 52 drying yards in Mostaikka Para.

Production is ongoing at 68 yards this season, and businesses expect sales to reach at least Tk10 crore.
