The satirical play ‘Kak’ was staged at the Shaheed Subhas Auditorium of Cox’s Bazar Public Library on Friday evening, drawing a full house.
Agantuk Cultural Sangsad staged the play at 7:00 pm, with Shahidul Shannon writing and directing.
The third staging of ‘Kak’ marked Agantuk Cultural Sangsad’s sixth production. The fourth staging is scheduled for Saturday, October 10, at 7:00pm at the same auditorium.
Organisers said the play uses humour and satire to portray human selfishness, self-deception, personal calculations for gain and double standards. The characters’ actions reveal the tendencies people conceal behind their public personas.
The story revolves around the complicated relationships among Shafik, his wife Nipa, colleague Sweety and senior office official Bacchu. Following a doctor’s advice to improve his physical and mental well-being, Shafik practises laughter yoga at a park on his way to work. Meanwhile, complications arise in his relationship with Sweety and as Bacchu tries to grow closer to Shafik’s wife, Nipa. As the story unfolds, the characters’ hypocrisy gradually comes to light.
Through comic situations, the play satirises such contradictory behaviour and the tendency to prioritise personal interests over honesty.
The central idea compares the behaviour of crows with human nature. Even a clever bird such as a crow may fail to find food it has hidden. Similarly, people can harm themselves while calculating personal gains, exposing their pettiness and selfishness in the process.
Agantuk Cultural Sangsad was founded in 2022 by a group of culture enthusiasts who had come to Cox’s Bazar from different parts of the country for professional reasons. Local art lovers later joined the organisation, which works across theatre, literature, and other cultural forms. It has also been publishing a literary magazine since 2023.
Its first production was ‘Anantokal Jhinjhinkar Moto’, followed by Rabindranath Tagore’s ‘Chitrangada’. In 2024, the group staged the street play ‘Antoripe Dariye’, which focused on the environment and ecological degradation, and ‘Nirbak Karigor’ to mark the victory in the Liberation War. The latter was brought to the stage in January 2026.
The organisation said ‘Kak’ had been presented to invite feedback and criticism from audiences. It aims to expose contemporary social contradictions and human hypocrisy through humour and satire.
Group members expressed hope that public support would help expand and strengthen Agantuk Cultural Sangsad’s cultural activities.
