Seashell-based handicrafts remain a popular attraction at Laboni Point in Cox’s Bazar, where small traders display a variety of handmade items along the pavement. Among them is Zainal Abedin, who has been earning his livelihood through this craft.
Zainal Abedin said he collects seashells and uses them to create various showpieces and gift items. He decorates them with painted designs and also engraves names using acid, based on customer preferences. Zainal Abedin tailors many of the items to meet tourists’ demands.
Tourists primarily buy these products, starting at Tk100, as souvenirs. Buyers also noted that prices are negotiable.
Despite intense heat or fluctuations in tourist numbers, these small stalls continue to operate daily at Laboni Point. To attract tourists, Zainal and other vendors regularly introduce new designs and creative products.
